Bamfield Community Affairs Unofficial Minutes October 19, 2015

Attendance:

Meeting called to order : 7:40pm

Approval of minutes from September 21, 2015

Treasurers Report (Stephan Ochman)

• $188.04 in CCCU chequing account. $5.21 savings. Business high interest $14.49. Savings balance $32,076.17 M/S C. Gruman/J. Hastey received

Regional Directors Report (Keith Wyton)

• Attended UBCM Annual General Conference in Vancouver in September (Good opportunity to hear from government)

• Attended meeting with Deputy Minister of Health-about Bamfield helipad

• Current discussions/big issues;

1. Emergency services initiative-trying to hold Bamfield meeting (helicopter site is not approved/does not meet requirements) Looking at relocating-possibly down by water.

2. Not having ambulance/transportation from nursing station to aircraft

Water Committee Meeting

• Attended meeting September 15^th Did not get funding for filtration system. Looking at monitoring turbidity levels (every 4 hrs) to meet drinking water standards. We have always met standards-issue is THM levels.

• Started opening discussion with Huu ay aht First Nation about potential cooperation of water treatment.

Road Repair Work

• Emcon Services Inc/Ministry of Highway came out reviewed plan with Keith

• Ticking off jobs from the list. Started work on Brady’s trail, East Bamfield (Tower Rd)

• Zoning Bylaw Open House Thursday, October 22, 4-7pm @ Fire Hall

Everything to do with zoning/land use. Seeking input/ideas-everyone welcome!

Bamfield Community School (Kristin Russell)

• Students participated in province wide earthquake drill/BC Shake Out on Thursday, Oct. 15^th. Students and staff evacuated to Fire Hall after the drill and then returned to BCS for debriefing and discussion led by Linda Myres (Emergency preparedness) Big thanks to Linda for all her help in ensuring we are all PREPARED, NOT SCARED

• Come to Buddy Reading every Wednesday 12:45-1:15pm. Best turn out last week-one adult per student!

• Halloween Community Lunch Wed. Oct 28^th (RSVP BCSA) followed by buddy reading and pumpkin carving at 1:30pm

• November 10^th, Remembrance Day Ceremony @ BCS time TBA

Bamfield Community School Association (Lisa Herbig reporting for Janet Simpson-Cooke)

• Look for a printed hard copy of community events coming in the mail

Bamfield Community Hall Society (Rose Janelle)

• Correction: Community Hall Christmas Social will be Saturday, December 5^th 7pm at the Rix Centre

• Aside: Road closure this weekend Friday October 23 (10am) until Sunday, October 25^th. Check Bamfield corkboard for detour info

Bamfield Road Commitee (Stephan Ochman)

• Bamfield Road Safety Association AGM Saturday, Oct. 24, 11am at Cameron Shop/WFP

• Stephan will post map on Bamfield Corkboard

• WFP providing lunch. Donuts will also be provided.

Bamfield Huu ay aht Community Forest (Stephan Ochman)

• Still waiting to hear from Ministry since Management Plan submitted

Grant in Aid Revision (Stephan Ochman)

• Rose Janelle-motion to table to next meeting

• Rose Janelle-cupcake sale for breast cancer @ Post Office Friday, Oct. 23

• Christine Gruman-Wayne Newfield is having a bottle drive for Halloween fireworks for Anacla kids. Contact him for more info.
