Bamfield Community Affairs Meeting Unofficial Minutes

21st September 2015 7:30pm @ Bamfield Community School

Attendance: Lee Weber, Kristin Russell, JP Hastey, Sheryl & John Mass, Lisa Bye, Roger Demontigny, Suzanne Jennings, Rose Janelle, Stefan Ochman, Louis Druehl, Peter Herbig, Rae Hopkins

Minutes of 15th of June 2015 received with the correction on pg. 2 that should read …Ken Bodaly who raked the whole pavilion lawn. M/S. L.Bye/K.Russell.

Treasurer’s Report- Stefan Ochman: $188.04 in CCCU chequing account; $22,048.00 CCCU High Interest savings account. Deposit of $10,000 from ACRD bringing the savings account to a balance of $32,061.88. M/S. S.Mass/S.Jennings. Received.

Regional Representative’s Report- Keith Wyton is in Vancouver at the annual Union of BC Municipalities conference please see his report attached to these minutes. Any questions contact Keith at 250 720 6802 or

Committee Reports Bamfield Community School- Kristin Russell: This school year saw one student depart for Ucluelet and two students enrolled, bringing enrollment to 16! . -The Open House was well attended. –Raise a Reader Day Wednesday the 23rd September 12:40. –Join the students for Buddy Reading Wednesdays 12:40 until 1:20pm. Everyone is encouraged to read with the students. –Steve Brown is the new BCS principal. Welcome back, Mr. Brown! –Janet Simpson Cooke (BCSA Coordinator) is the new Literacy and Numeracy and prep-time teacher in addition to BCSA duties. She will be teaching Monday- Thursday 10:35-11:45 am and Tuesday/Thursday: 2:00-2:40pm. –BCS thanks the Bamfield Community Hall Society for the donation of hamburger patties.

Bamfield Community Hall Society- JP Hastey: Hopes to have a working business plan for construction of new Community Hall for members to peruse at the Christmas Social in December. –Minutes of Hall meetings will be available to members on a regular basis starting soon. -Harvest Dinner and Auction in August were a huge success. Thank you to BVFD for the use of the Fire Hall for the event. –Rose Janelle: Over $8000 was made at the Harvest Dinner and Auction for the Community Hall. – Thank you to everyone!

Huu-ay-aht First Nation Trail- John Mass: Donations can be made to Huu-ay-aht Group and a tax receipt will be issued. More than $450,00.00 has been raised so far. Building the trail will be done by the Huu-ay-aht Corporation- roughing out could happen this fall. This trail will run adjacent to Bamfield Rd ( Anacla to Bamfield). Public consultation will take place the 6th of October.

Bamfield Centennial Park- Lisa Bye: June & July were fairly busy and August was very busy. Despite not having a student helper the whole summer it was overall a very successful summer. –Dave Gerbrandt built a skateboard half-pipe. The park purchased 7 helmets and pads and hopes to purchase 2 skateboards in the future.

Bamfield Road Committee- Stefan Ochman: Brushing the last 5 km of the Bamfield was recently done thanks to the Ministry of Transportation. – 2015 AGM of the Bamfield Road Committee will be the 24th of October 2015, 11:00am at Cameron Camp Shops. Mark your calendar and attend.

Bamfield Huu-ay-aht Community Forest- Stefan Ochman: Finally, in August the Ministry of Forests said it would start reviewing the committee’s plans. At least the trees are still growing. Committee hopes to have its AGM in November.

Old Business Revision of Grants in Aid(see attached to minutes)- The Community Affairs Directors have revised the Grants in Aid and the Directors have approved the revisions which will go out with the minutes to be read at October Community Affairs meeting. M/S. J.Mass/ S.Ochman. Carried. –A contingency fund containing $10,000.00 will always remain in the account.

Discussion of The Bamfield Road Committee applying for a Grant in Aid for the Huu-ay-aht Trail received unanimous endorsement.
