ACRD Director’s Report- Bob Beckett

ACRD has many new faces

Since the past municipal/regional election the ACRD Board has met once and held two days of orientation for the new board members and staff. November and December are busy for the Board with getting up to speed on board processes, regional governance matters and starting to focus on business at hand including identifying board priorities, including budgeting, planning matters etc.

One of the first duties of the Electoral Area Director is to appoint an Alternate Director, someone who can fill in at ACRD Board and Electoral area meetings, in the absence of the director. For the last 4 years Bob Baden has been my Alternate Director for which I am most grateful.

Bob Baden approached me a few weekends ago and indicated that he wished to be appointed the Bamfield APC (Advisory Planning Commission). The ACRD Board recently  confirmed his appointment, but in doing so Bob can no longer serve as an Alternate Director.

Consequently, I have asked Bob Schmitt to take on the responsibility of Alternate Director. Bob has an extensive background in municipal government in the capacity as a municipal solicitor. Over the past year or so, Bob and I have had numerous conversations about the ACRD governance model and I feel confident given our relationship and his municipal experience that he will make an excellent Alternate Director.

We have been approached by a few publications due to the road improvement announcements. Montecristo magazine has produced a very well-written , well-researched article with input from Jamie Willock (thank you Jamie)

Western Investor neglected all the information about the current state of the road and published that it is now paved,

An Island Chamber coalition has been formed and meets monthly via Zoom to address issues common to all, including staff shortages, lack of available housing, rising freight costs etc. I am hoping to be able to join the next meeting.
