Meeting called to order: 6:30PM

Minutes of 19th February 2017. Corrected to read Road Committee not commission; in attendance Mark (not Mike) Stokes & Chris MacInerney.  M/S J. Mass/R. Charytonowicz. Received.

Treasurer’s Report- Louis Druehl for Sheryl Mass:  Chequing Account - $11,608.66. Savings Account - $22,387.03. Interest: $7.82. Service charge: $2.50 M/S B.Beckett/ J.Mass. Received.

Regional Director’s Report- Bob Beckett: There is an ambulance agreement that will cover vehicle, training & equipment for Bamfield. Budget & Tax implications: The estimate cost for both ACRD Hospital District for 2019 based on a $300,000 assessed value is $965.65, compared to 2018 of $962.98.     

–Parking Initiative Update: ACRD is supportive of road right of-way parking & is working on ways to achieve this.    

–Bamfield Health Centre: Nurse Dunn may be looking at alternative employment opportunities within Island Health. Bob thanked Linda Myres & team for their efforts on the Community Emergency Plan. Bob was asked about camping on Brady’s Beach and about beach fires during fire ban. He will look into this. Also was asked about pay phone issues (telus has removed all pay phones in Bamfield) and lack of cell service. Bob will also continue seeking answers to these issues.

Committee Reports 

Parking Initiative - Bob Baden: What is needed to move on parking sites: surveying & on-site inspection. ACRD could map the area for the community. So far, no participation from the Ministry of Highways – but expecting signage from the Min. of Highways when the time comes.

Bamfield Community Hall Society – Rose Janelle: The Celtic Dinner was great fun. Special thanks to Chef Nancy Sherry, Owen Newson & fellow musicians, spirit tender Lisa Herbig, Rich Palmer chair finder [and the Hall Society thanks Rose for her perseverance & dedication].

Easter Egg Hunt! Saturday 20th April, 11:00AM sharp! At Eileen Scott Centennial Park.                      

Bamfield Community Emergency Programs- Jerry Gassner: ACRD has appointed Siobhan Gray & Jerry as Deputy Emergency Coordinators.

The Bamfield Emergency Program will focus on Neighbourhood Preparedness, Emergency Operations Centre Training & Communications in 2019.                                                                      For the entire BCEP report please see document in Bamfield library.

Bamfield Health Centre- Donna Dunn: Donna hopes to become relief nurse instead of part-time nurse here in Bamfield. VIHA is talking of having 2 nurses in the summer – nothing has been decided.- Another Telehealth session recently took place in the Health Centre. A convenient means of medical advice from your doctor without leaving Bamfield!  Immunizations are available to some students at the Bamfield Community School.

Bamfield Community School Association- Christine Gruman: Introduced Martin Pilar the new BCSA Coordinator. Drop by the BCSA office to welcome our new arrival from Ontario. Glad to meet you, Martin. Welcome!

Bamfield Historical Society – Rae Hopkins suggested that Community Affairs recognize at the beginning of meetings that we are on Huu-ay-aht Territory. This became a motion seconded by Bernadette Wyton. Passed.

Centennial Park- Louis Druehl: -5th of May Work-Bee will be a clean-up day in the park. Lunch will be provided to volunteers catered by The Pub. Everyone is welcome. Rain or shine.

Renia introduced her neighbour Janine Lewis who lives in the former Needham house with her partner Scott DeMoin. They provided fire works on the Huu-ay-aht dock New Year’s Eve! Welcome to Bamfield!

John Mass announced “Picnic at Dodgers” Saturday of the May long weekend. Contact John for more information.

Bernadette Wyton said Barkley Sound Alliance has only heard from the Huu-ay-ahts not LNG that they are not proceeding with the project at this time. The Alliance keeps moving forward to identify what we have around Barkley Sound.

Lisa Herbig announced the community potluck at House of Huu-ay-aht Sunday the 14th of April. Everyone is welcome! Bring a dish and an appetite.
