Introduction of new officers of Community Affairs Directors: Co-chair: Louis Druehl/Sheryl Mass Treasurer – Stefan Ochman Secretary – Rae Hopkins

Treasurer’s Report- Stefan Ochman: As of the 31st of May 2015 there was $400.04 in the Community Coastal Credit Union chequing account, $22,021.55 in the CCCU High Interest Savings Account and we earned $14.19 interest. Received.

Alberni Clayoquot Regional District Report- Regional Director – Keith Wyton:

  1. Federal Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans has notified that they are moving forward with their plans to dispose (divest) the Bamfield West Dock. We have until August 2015 to express our interest in acquiring it. Keith has asked ACRD staff to assist in maintaining this important asset in our community.
  2. There was a Transportation and Health seminar in Port Alberni on June 11th. Stefan and Keith attended. They supported improvements to the Bamfield Road. A Transportation Working Group was established.
  3. It is expected that the new ACRD Environmental Services Manager will be appointed by the end of June. Keith is looking forward to having this position filled so we can proceed with infrastructure issues involving water and solid waste.
  4. Keith will run the nomination process at this meeting for new members to be appointed to the Bamfield Water Committee and the Bamfield Advisory Planning Commission (APC). We are seeking 4 to 7 new members for the APC and 2 new members for the Water Committee.

Nomination for APC – There are 5 people whose term is up. There are 4 people who will continue for another year (John Mass, Tish McPhee, Denice Roberge, Barry Otterson). Max Salamon and Rae Hopkins have volunteered to stand again. Jane Morrison, JP Hastey, Max Salamon and Rae Hopkins were selected to stand for 2 years.

Bamfield Water Committee consists of 6 members: 2 who are at large, 1 for 2 years & 1 for 3 years. There are quarterly meetings.

BVFD Fire Chief is a non-voting member ACRD Regional Representative. APC Chair BMSC (Brad Anholt) 2 Members at Large 1 Member from business community nominated by Chamber of Commerce (no one has come forth with a name)

JP Hastey and Lisa Bye are the Members at Large.

Committee Reports Community Affairs – Louis Druehl: The Directors met and have agreed that Grants in Aid Policy will be revised.

Harbour Authority Fisherman’s Float – Wendy Lukas: The Harbour Authority had its AGM in June. The Directors are Barry Sills, Keith Wyton, Rick Sweeting, Wendy Lukas, Rae Hopkins.

Bamfield Historical Society- Heather Cooper: The 10th annual display of posters in Centennial Park, is “Sharing Our Stories” in consultation with Huu ay aht Grandparents’ Society. Huu ay aht singers and dancers will perform the dinner song at noon on Canada Day in Centennial Park to celebrate the opening of the display. –Carmanah, Pachena and Cape Beale Lighthouses have been given Heritage Status. These sites will be maintained and will have a plaque at each location.

Music By The Sea- Heather Cooper: Purchase your Bamfield tickets before July 1st . Call Heather at 250 728 3143.

Bamfield Volunteer Fire Department Auxilary – Jan Pearce: 1st July Canada Day Parade. Meet at fire hall at 10:30am. -4th of July Intertidal Golf $10.00, $15.00 with a hat. Dinner $15.00. Dance 9pm $10.00 music from Tofino/Ucluelet. –August long weekend (1st – 3rd Aug) Salmon Derby. $20 per rod.

Bamfield Centennial Park- Lisa Bye: Student employee still needed in the park. Might have to offer contract work. Information Centre hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 3-6pm. Friday & Saturday: All day. –Thank you to the garden helpers Jane, Suzanne, Katharine & Rae and Ken Bodaly who raked the whole pavilion!

  • Canada Day: Parade, “Oh, Canada!”, hot dogs/ watermelon, opening of historical display, kids games & crafts, baseball with Gord Hawkins. Pig roast & potluck, all proceeds going to rebuild a school in Nepal. $10.00 adults, $6.00 for kids under 12. The Wytons are giving a showing of Nepal Before & After the earthquake. 7pm at the school the 16th of June.

Bamfield Community School Association- Janet Simpson-Cooke:

  • Tent cards will be printed advertising date, place & time of events & will be placed everywhere in the community.
  • Community lunch June 17th. Please come to the BBQ in the gym where the students will demonstrate what they have been working on the last month.
  • 27th June 6-8pm Community Night –Summer Camp starting the first week of July for 5 weeks. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday alternating between Bamfield Community School & Anacla
  • Wednesday is swimming lesson. Youth 4-12 years old.
  • There will be movies under the stars this summer
  • 12th of September is Authors, Oysters and Ale.
  • BMSC tennis court has a long tradition and Janet is seeking a grant to provide a cover & improve this tennis court. Any old photos of the tennis court would be appreciated.
  • 2017 is the 150th Anniversary of Canada. There is grant money available, what would Bamfield like to do to commemorate this day?? Contact Janet at the BCSA office 250 728 1220 or bcsacoordinator@gmail.com .
  • There will be 2 beach volleyball nets –one at Pachena Beach & one at Brady’s Beach.
  • Musicians for Music by the Sea will be practicing at the school.

Bamfield Volunteer Fire Department- Eric Clelland: Training continues. Everyone passed the first exams with rewrites. Next test 8th of July. -1 ½ pound hose replaced for the pumper truck. The used hose will be used on the west side & Anacla. –Recently got retired Capt. Kelly a” particular colour” helmet. –The pumper at Anacla is identical to the west side pumper. –Fire restrictions are across the island – we are in the fog zone. Be aware all fires could be restricted. –The 9th of May the fire alarm sounded at the Community School. It was a faulty alarm in a vent. This has been replaced.

Bamfield Community School-Kristin Russell: Buddy reading continues Wednesdays 12:45-1:20. -25th June is last day od school! -BBQ at the end of school to be announced.

Bamfield Community Hall Society- JP Hastey: The board had its first meeting of new directors bringing conversation together about a community hall.

  • Canada Day in Centennial Park sponsored by the Hall Society. Hot dogs, watermelon, singing “Oh!Canada” and in the later afternoon a pig roast, corn on the cob and live music! -29th August - Harvest Dinner & Auction . Dinner 5pm. Auction 7pm.

Community Forest- Stefan Ochman: There is a new person in Ministry of Forests, Lands & Resources, he has not done anything yet; the license is still pending…Trees are still growing.

Bamfield Road Safety Committee: Stefan Ochman: Stefan has asked to have bridges and corners brushed. Brush is still growing.

Old Business Scotch broom whacking along the road continues.

New Business Nepal School slide show 16th June in the Community School library. Donations will go to rebuilding a school in Nepal. Cheques may be made out to Abbey Field to receive a charitable donation tax receipt. –Western Forest Products BBQ. 17th June at Pachena 5pm.
