Correspondence – Rae Hopkins: Received Grants-in-Aid Financial Reports from Bamfield Community School Association for grant of $3976.00 and from Bamfield Memorial Tree Society for grant of $5000.00.

Regional Director’s Report – n/a

Committee Reports BMSC – Brad Anholt: Management Council met two weeks ago in Bamfield. There have been staff changes made in Public Ed and there will be directional changes. Public Education will continue.

Memorial Tree Society – Steve Clarke: Official ribbon cutting will be the 22nd of June at 12:00 at the Memorial Pavilion in Centennial Park. -The Strawberry Tea will also be Saturday the 22nd from 11:00am until 3:00pm. $10.00 for tea, sandwiches and strawberry shortcake. There will be a Bake Sale with proceeds going to the Memorial Society.

Bamfield Volunteer Fire Department – Mark Kelly: The new safety regime is progressing. There is a proposed Burn By-Law being considered so BVFD will have some control of when burning occurs and what is being burned.

Huu-ay-aht First Nation – Jeffery Cook: A Peoples Assembly the 22nd of June in Port Alberni. Everyone is welcome. -Talk continues about recycling. -A Tsunami debris program is being put in place. -The Accord with Bamfield – working together to take advantage of services and programs continues. -Island Timberland owns half of Fleming Island and wants to log it (the crown owns the other half). Huu-ay-ahts oppose this because of cultural heritage sites and potential for tourism and is asking Bamfield to support no logging. -Friday the 21st of June is Aboriginal Day, the Active Living Society of Anacla has planned a walk/run from Bamfield to Anacla. Meet at The Market(at the four way stop in Bamfield) at 9:30am for the walk/run. There will be barbecued salmon and hot dogs at Pachena beach with cultural activities to follow. -1000 pounds of halibut was stolen from the House of Huu-ay-aht. There will be a $1000.00 reward on conviction.

Centennial Park – Eileen Scott: Brenda Spivey is this summer’s supervisor. Erin Dyck is the student helper who will be helping whack grass and working in the information centre. What a team!

Bamfield Community School Association – Catherine Thompson - 19th June- Latin Dance Fusion. 5:15 at the school. Suggested donation of $5.00. -21st Anacla’s Active Living Society’s walk/run Bamfield to Anacla 9:30 at The Market. -24th – Yolates 7:00pm school. 25th – Sports day and BBQ. Sports at 3:00pm and BBQ at 4:30pm. 26th-Toastmasters new time. 2nd and 4th Wednesday @5:30pm at school. 27th-Last day of school. Assembly at 1:00pm. -Starting July 8th there will be dance classes every Monday at 7:00pm at school. Suggested donation of $5.00. -July8th & 15th Ballroom series. -July 22nd &29th Ballroom series cont. Cha cha & jive. -July 19th- Last day to submit photos in the My Community Photo Contest. First Prize a digital camera! -24th August- Deadline to submit short stories and poetry to Oysters and Ale Short Stories & Poetry Contest. OAA will be held in September. BCSA is looking for donations for the silent auction and raffle, all monies raised will support literacy initiatives in the community.

-In June the BCSA planned an end of year student camping trip to Diana Island in the Deer Group. A number of individuals volunteered their time to make this trip educational, safe and fun. On our three day adventure the students learned about life in the intertidal; practiced survival skills; and explored the traditional territory of the Huu-ay-aht First Nations. The BCSA was able to make this trip possible due to generous donations from the Huu-ay-aht first Nations and many community members. Thank you to all of the families and community members who took part and made this possible!

Bamfield Huu-ay-aht Community Forest- Stefan Ochman: Not much progress because the government is still reviewing the management plan which was submitted in December.

Road Safety Association – Stefan Ochman: Letters were sent after the AGM to the Minister of Transportation regarding signage. Billboard at Port Alberni end of the road needs to be upgraded. Sides of road need brushing. Stefan will ask George Nookemus to brush scotch broom along road. -New chair of Road Association is being sought.

Bamfield Community Hall noted absent from meeting. Being a grants in aid recipient community members are interested in progress.

New Business

Steve Clarke made a motion that Bamfield community is not in support of logging Fleming Island and a petition stating this should be posted in east and west Bamfield. Suzanne Jennings seconded. Passed unanimously.

BVFD submitted a request for grants-in-aid for Halloween fireworks. Directors will review application and bring it before membership at next meeting.

It was decided not to meet in July and August. The next meeting will be September 16th 2013.
